  •  How about adding "Rape as a Weapon of War"... (17+ / 0-)

to the issues that GOPer fundies need to comment on.  After all, since they are the rape "experts", and since they've said that children born of rape are gifts, they really, really need to explain their position on:

the systematic rape of women in Bosnia, to an estimated 200,000 women raped during the battle for Bangladeshi independence in 1971, " ect.

They need to tell how they can justify that:

Rape is often used in ethnic conflicts as a way for attackers to perpetuate their social control and redraw ethnic boundaries...
What's their opinion on the fact that rape is used in warfare for destructive purposes?
"Therefore if one group wants to control another they often do it by impregnating women of the other community because they see it as a way of destroying the opposing community..."
Do they think it's okay to use rape as a method of "ethnic cleansing"?
"In Bosnia systematic rape was used as part of the strategy of ethnic cleansing," it said.

"Women were raped so they could give birth to a Serbian baby."

Are all these babies born for purposes of "ethnic cleansing" "gifts from God" and is it  "God's will" that hundreds of thousands of enemy women were (and still are being)  deliberately raped in conflicts around the world?

Please--someone in the press ask our Fundamentalist Politician Rape Experts for the answers to these troubling--and relevant questions.

to understand what it is like to be a women that is raped. But I try to have empathy. And I literally can't imagine something worse then being raped. It has to be a violation at a level I can't even really grasp. It is a topic I don't even like to talk about. That Republicans keep bring it up, I think that says a lot.

Is that they want to talk about it.  But they just want to talk about it on their terms.

Unfortunately, so far the press, and the Democrats are letting them.  IMHO, they should be forcing them to have a full conversation, one where they have to explain their stand on things like deliberate rape of entire female populations as a strategy to destroy the enemy, etc.

So far, they've just been allowed to send dog whistles to their fanatical supporters, look a bit foolish to the non-kool-aid drinkers, and the press moves on without drilling down on the topic.  It's an ugly one, and if the republicans want to keep talking about how they are determined to assert their control and subjugation of women, they need to talk about how such absolute control over other human beings--and their absolutist support of them--can be, has been, and is, when carried to the extreme, used to destroy entire populations and nations.

      •  I will answer your statement with this: Talk to (5+ / 0-)

a man who's been raped. I have known several throughout the years and I can tell you that each one of them knew intimately what a raped woman goes through.

I had a couple of them in small discussion groups in a Women's Studies class in the early 70's. Turns out they had the same psychological and similar physical issues as the women who were raped. They couldn't get pregnant but the violation seemed to have the same impact.

One of them was raped by another man at the point of a gun. His anus was torn very badly from the forced penetration. His emotions, his psychological state seemed to be the same as a raped woman.

I see that you are empathetic and on the right side of the issue. I can understand your reluctance to talk about it. My own view of rape is from the outside, in that I have never been raped. But I learned enough to wonder what I would do under the same circumstances.

I do know that trying to explain it to any current repub would be beyond hideous, another crime in itself.

Women, men, who have been raped are victims of a crime, the only crime in which she is questioned by some cops as to whether she had an orgasm from the event, or what she was wearing, or why did she try to take the train after 10 pm, or... No one who is robbed of their wallet is subjected to this kind of treatment. Only the raped woman has to defend her life and choices after the crime. She has to prove it was against her will.

And it's still going on with these rethugs who don't believe a raped woman can get pregnant due to magic secretions or that she invited the rape so it's not legitimate.

A good book to read is "Against Their Will" - I'm pretty sure it's still in print.

    •  Meh. The simple question (4+ / 0-)

nobody's asking is why, if their God thinks unborn fertilized eggs are such a great "gift," does he cause at least 2/3 of them to be spontaneously miscarried?
