    Inside the Temple, they were on the Temple Mount. They weren't even inside one of the higher courts, let alone near the Holy of Holies.

    And yes, I think it was appropriate for them to be changing money so that Jews from all over the world could make their festival sacrifices. You take on a risk when changing money especially in the ancient world when coins were often subject to seigneurage and not everyone had heard of Archimedes.

      where does it say that the money changers were outside the temple mount? everything I've ever read has them in the temple.

        didnt mean outside the mount, rather outside the temple. besides which the temple mount itself is still holy. just because you're not in the kadosh hakadoshim doesn't mean you're not desecrating the place.
