  •  I got an odd one in Eugene a couple of days ago... (10+ / 0-)

huge amount of background noise, sort of like you get on a bad cell signal???, and a fairly heavy accent...

she asked something about if I'd been at this street address (and reeled it off) for more than X years (or something? something about were we long-time residents or not)

then an age demographic, stated as "what year were you born"

when I replied "1947", she thanked me and hung up!

so I don't have ANY idea what that was about, but apparently being old and settled was NOT what they were sifting for in respondents!

anybody else get that one, & get past the first 2 questions?

    •  That sounds more like identity theft. (13+ / 0-)

When verifying credit info. That is information they ask for. A specific address X years ago. What kind of car you've had a loan for in the past. What year you were born. Etc. etc. I would never give that info. I also don't verify my last 4 of my SS# unless I'm calling THEM.

        •  I have gone to a few different (0+ / 0-)

credit check sources. One is for your FREE annual credit. go to annualcreditreport.com That is the only mandated free credit report from the FTC.

Another place I use is CreditKarma.com. You can monitor your credit for free. It never costs you anything. I still do my annual report, and keep up at Credit Karma. Hope that helps.

        •  I did call the bank today, more work now... (0+ / 0-)

called my bank (CU) for advice...

Someone there said they had gotten a similar call, a) wanted to confirm street address, b) wanted to know how many lived there, c) wanted to know ages -- THAT call was sorting for political mailings! Since there was a 20-something female in the household, they got some Planned Parenthood related mailings shortly thereafter.

Bank suggested I call credit rating agencies & request a flag for a period of time and I'll probably do that. And check out second gen's suggestions too.
