    is the implication that a candidate could win 90% of the vote in a state like California by moving hard left. Even dependably blue states like New York, California and Massachusetts have a history of electing Republican governors. That's because even liberal states have mixed electorates.

    The fact that all states have a spectrum of voters insures that even without the Electoral College a presidential candidate would have to appeal broadly to voters, not just pander to his base.

    Romney fires people and then complains they don't pay taxes.
