But "rare" for me would be an abortion dictated by necessity for various reasons and a great many of those reasons would be eliminated by universal availability to contraception.

I was in high school when Roe v. Wade was decided.  I had friends who either had an older sister or some female relative who got an illegal abortion, or died because of attempting the horrifying coat hanger in the closet version.

The pill was available, but only for married women, for the most part.  By not making contraception and sex ed available to girls my age, it just perpetuated the need for too many abortions for teens and young women.

I don't think abortion should be the MEANS of birth control, women who get repeated abortions obviously need to have some sexual health discussions with a doctor or Planned Parenthood.  Subjecting yourself to repeated surgery over a lifetime is not good for YOUR health.

Maybe we should change the "rare" to "rarer."

If everybody has access to contraception, if every rape victim is given the morning after medication right away, then abortions would definitely be "rarer," wouldn't they?

I think that's the goal most of us want to strive for and I think conservative friends could live with that, too.
