  •  Yo the Phil ! My advice for those who can--LEAVE (7+ / 0-)

For a few years after we retired in the Texas Hurricane Zone we dealt with the threat of living in a overpopulated coastal area of the upper Texas coast.

One time when a tropical storm (stage before hurricane came) we had been remodeling and were too tired to evacuate.  We did not get much damage but folks a mile away lost their entire roof.

Another time we were trying to take my father-in-law back to Houston 65 miles away and spent an hour more than usual on I-10 because of traffic from people evacuating New Orleans 5 hours drive away.

It was these experiences that informed our decision to watch the weather reports religiously and leave in plenty of time to avoid getting stuck in a major evacuation.  See the history of the Hurricane Rita evacuation from Houston area . Its not pretty.

We were retired. Many will not see there way clear to do that.  Hope all stay safe.
