I've never taken the time to really learn about some of the internals of this web site, and have always wondered what good the tags are?  Do they have some type of a priority when you do a search?

So if voters or potential voters are searching for hard to find analysis of certain issues the chances of them retrieving a dailykos diary go up if the tags are relevant.  Good tags are good for dailykos visibility and good for framing issues from our progressive viewpoints.

link a diary to the most recent diaries filed under the tag and also give readers an idea of what your diary contains.

Tags are important if you want to be seen.

ie Kos says; Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House.

If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc).

Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Library catalog... so if you know WHAT you are looking for, you can do a tag-search.

they can be a little cumbersome, sometimes it takes some hunting to find the "magic words", but also VERY helpful, if you're trying to locate something from the hazy past (of last week, or further back, 8-))
