  •  Not the subway, but extra ambulances... (10+ / 0-)

and other preparations that can be made in advance so that once the worst of the storm is over everything can quickly spring into action.  We're talking money and people on the ground in addition to what we already have.  That type of stuff.  There's nothing that can be done about the subway, but there's plenty of else that can, and should be, done.  Bloomberg decided we're better off on our own for some crazy reason.

Enacting our agenda requires winning elections. Oh, and me on Facebook and Twitter.

subway - not really sure what value you believe they would add. Money? That takes time, requires a declaration of emergency, they're probably doing that already. So, people on the ground, ambulances and what we already have? That's what he turned down?

During the blizzard, Bloomie shifted DSNY resources from the outer boroughs into Manhattan.

When storm cleanup time comes, pay attention to the numbers on the sides of the DSNY trucks that are involved in the cleanup.  What you're looking for are the garage numbers: for example the prefix M is for Manhattan, Bx is for Bronx, Q is for Queens, and so on.   These have digits after them to designate which garage in that particular borough is their normal home base.

For example look for the number M.7 (Manhattan garage 7) on this spreader unit:

Here's a collection truck / plow from the Bronx: Bx.10

If he does it this time, people should be prepared to take pictures of outer-borough equipment operating in Manhattan, to prove that he's playing favoritism with disaster recovery resources.

Probably some of the union guys will be willing to blow the whistle on this stuff if the public is willing to back them up.
