  •  Destination Love is one of my favorite songs (5+ / 0-)

and when I first heard it on an NPR station years ago I was introduced to Wynonie Harris.    Can't believe you posted that song.  You are truly a kindred soul.

    •  I was having a torrid affair with a lady in Dallas (4+ / 0-)

back in the 90's (I was single), while I was living in Oklahoma City.  I used to play Destination Love loudly on my car stereo as I drove south on I-35 to rendezvous with her...

      Bittersweet memories....but the song rocks.

i love a broad range of blues and the 40's and 50's era jump blues and blues shouters stuff that evolved into r&b and rock and roll is, i think some pretty cool stuff.  i think it was kind of skipped over by the most recent wave of blues appreciation in the 80's and 90's in favor of the guitar slingers.  (not that i have anything against guitar slingers.)

i was turned on to wynonie harris back in the late 60's or early 70's  by a friend's dad who was a total jazz fanatic and was amazed that a kid actually liked that sort of thing.  i learned an awful lot from digging through his record collection.
