  •  Funny how our politcos blurt out "hey we are like (2+ / 0-)

Greece! " or "we'll become Greece" for all the wrong reasons while overlooking the real reasons. Or the fact that Greece is becoming us.

      by their owners.

i watched a right-wing propaganda piece on pbs last night about the linkages between the european "crisis" and the american economy, sponsored by a new group of shady conservatives called "donors choice."  pete peterson and the koch brothers must have written the script.

they kept trying to intimate that the us was going to be the next greece because of our horrible debt. zomg! we have debt!

they totally avoided the issue of the part that the banks played in creating the european debt crisis. they avoided the fact that the bankers and the government types in the eu and greece knew about greece's government elite's unethical use of the greek credit card and the fact that the greek people had no clue of what was being done in their name.  and they never once mentioned that greece does not control its own currency while the us does and it has the further advantage of being the world's reserve currency and that the us cannot possibly go broke.

these debt crisis ninnies are getting on my nerves.

      •  Ha, PBS - your librul media at work. I hear your (3+ / 0-)

frustration Joe. I too feel depressed that sometimes I wish NPR & PBS just go die. I don't switch on the radio as much but browse the intertubes more. Glad I don't have the idiot box because it is more inviting to smash than the radio.

        •  i am no longer inclined to worry a bit... (3+ / 0-)

when the rethugs start talking about defunding big bird.  frankly, i've begun to hope that they do it, because i'm sick of that network whoring after money and approval from right-wing jackasses like the koch brothers.

in my estimation, the valuable programming that exists on pbs like frontline and bill moyers will garner enough support to continue in some form and even if they wind up being internet-only features, their reputation will allow them to retain the audience that they currently have.

      •  More specifically Wall STreet's role must be (3+ / 0-)

stressed again and again in the debt crisis.  I just was also wondering how much the high dollar policy (Rubinomics)  contributed to the speculative housing bubble in Europe and the debt crisis. Dean Baker is a harsh critic of the high dollar policy.

deregulatory regime that rubinomics created, but the high dollar policy was a bad thing all around.  funny that the idiots that are screaming about china's currency manipulations don't seem to be bothered by our own.

Treasury (or the FED?) can act to counter China - if only they really want to. But they didn't because it worked so good for the 1%. In a way, it is a form of soft bigotry by TPTB - the liberal style (not in your face like the conservative bigotry - creating resentment against the Chinese. Yves Smith in her book ECONNED mentions how the high dollar policy helped Dems cheat the unions  - by pleading helplessness  about outsourcing - globalization and all that nonsense stuff. I doubt the union leadership is stupid (they do have good economists working for them) , it is just that they are co-dependent and can't quit the abusive relationship.
