    ... comes to mind -- but there may be a hint of "The Shunned House" too.

    Stephen King described this particular paperback (Avon circa 1950) as his intro to Lovecraft in Dance Macabre.
    He didn't name the title, thus it was 'UN-named' -- but what he wrote, and the time-frame of his recollection, pointed to this edition.
    (I owned an antique copy of this low-grade bit of pulp when DM was new.)

    Methinks the other 'UN-remembered' story might have been in Playboy circa 1971, but that exercise can and should be 'UN-dertaken' often.
