    It means you're saying that....

    a.  Scalia is equivalent to Kagen on the Supreme Court
    b.  Tax cuts for the rich are the same as tax relief for the middle class
    c.  Getting into a ground war is the same as peace
    d.  Self-deportation is the same as a rational attempt at dealing with immigration reform
    e.  Having Obamacare is the same as nothing

    and so on....

If those equivalencies are true in his mind, by all means don't vote.  If he believes that they are not the same, vote for the side he believes in, which ever it is.

    •  Well, others have covered that. (1+ / 0-)

My point was about busting the myth of personal purity.

Someone who is withholding a vote out of protest may be doing it so it will be noticed as disapproval.  It might, but no one will interpret it as saying "move to the left," as another commenter says below.

Or, someone withholding a vote out of protest may simply be most concerned with their own conscience and being morally upright in what they do.

In which case, I think it's important to point out that the mathematical effect of not voting is one half vote for EACH.  Which means you haven't avoided sullying yourself, you've just tied yourself to the victory of either candidate.

You can't get out of your citizenship responsibility so easily.
