    at the moment.

Part of the issue with Anonymous is that we don't know who is actually representing an authentic "Anonymous" group effort at any one time.

    •  that's part of the strength of Anonymous! (7+ / 0-)

It doesn't have a narcissistic leader (much less one with misogynistic attitudes).

It's amorphous.  It's a brand.  It's got brand equity.  It is known by its actions rather than by the names of the people who did them.

Anyone can join up, anyone can form an Anon group, anyone can do an action under the Anon brand.

Military theorist John Robb has written extensively about these types of leaderless groups, as amorphous collective intelligences that have the relentless quality of swarms and infestations.  Groups of this type have the inherent strength of decentralization under a shared meme-set.

And while I strongly disapprove of Anon's attacks on .gov and .mil sites, I strongly support their attacks on corporate wrong-doers and I strongly support their present action.

"Minus two votes for the Republican" equals "plus one vote for the Democrat." Arithmetic doesn't care about their feelings either!

      •  My point was different (0+ / 0-)

We don't know if this is truly an Anonymous effort or just individual joshing or posturing without much substance.

That's a different point than whether or not the flattened, self-led style of Anonymous is a good fit for these kinds of battles or not.
