    citizen's whims. So a candidate does not necessarily have to start out progressive for me. That candidate however, must be willing to change his/her ideas and positions based on population-pressure.

    We have seen the Tea Party push candidates to the fire right and get far right politicians elected.

    Historically we have seen the left push candidates on many issues as well, such as forcing politicians to give women the right to vote, or in helping end the Vietnam war, or in granting civil rights to African-Americans.  

    So you don't just sit on your behind and comply with the whims of the status-quo, you make the change.
