      I agree that we are headed that way but disagree that it's because of little influence (by populace) or inabitlity to get good information.  People don't take the responsibility to vote (although that's getting better this year) or look up all the info that's available.  Issues are important things but the populace tends to use its time on any one of many minor things (including sports).  There is time for minor things but not at the exclusion of the other important ones.

        the individual for not being properly informed, given that "freedom of the press" is pretty much a Constitutional right for citizens in the US. That the private corporations who run the press decided in the 1980s that they no longer had to actually deliver real news and instead demand that their news wings deliver profits--with no governmental oversight, yet!--is hardly the fault of the populace. Where is the average citizen supposed to get his/her information? The internet is not free outside of an hour or two from a local public library (if one exists within range) each day, and I have ceased believing that any other media suffices. To whom should the citizenry turn for solid information when the press has abdicated its role?
