  •  We wake up to a brand new world this am (6+ / 0-)

Maybe Sandy will open some eyes that have refused to be opened before. We need our federal government-we need each other.

I went to sleep last night in Oregon knowing that so many people were having a very bad night and that this morning they would first see the wreckage Sandy has left. Now it is New York and New Jersey but in another time it will be somewhere else.  I am so grateful that most of us came through this. But there will be many people that need alot of help - food, shelter, new clothes - Winter is coming.

Most of us would not hesitate to help - these are the kind of people we need in government - luckily we already have a president that does not hesitate to help - we need to keep him. And throw out all those villains that would slash the help that is now needed - looking at you teaparty republicans. Maybe now people will have their eyes opened.

Hopefully, enough people already do (with many more who are coming to their senses), and will re-elect the President.
Unfortunately, there are a certain number of people who refuse to believe what they actually see and comprehend what they actually hear.  Willfully ignorant, willfully stupid.
They prefer lies from a slick (albeit very robot-like) and mendacious snake-oil salesman, oooops, I mean, republican candidate and his merry misogynist henchmen.  Sad, because many of these people who support Mittens will be the first he throws under the bus in the unfortunate case he's elected.  That MUST NOT happen.
      GOTV.

I said, in another of Teacherken's great posts this a.m., that there was a direct relationship between one's appreciation of the federal government and their need for it.

Generally the rich don't need a damn thing from anyone and therefore see the federal government as "taking" from them.  We, the relative poor - or in my case, the real poor, desperately appreciate the help from the federal government.  My family and I went through very very good periods and paid into the system but we are now dependent upon the federal government for a doctor's appointment for our 5 y/o little girl.

But, when the rich DO need the federal government, they are the fastest to state so.  When they needed a no interest float of a $900Billion loan b/c they brought the economy to its knees, they didn't ask the "private sector, they went directly to and begged the federal government.

It is possible that the magnitude of this storm and its damage will open some eyes as to the necessary role the feds play in ensuring "a more perfect union."   All we need is a few more to realize it.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.

          I completely agree with you.
It's the compassion to know that while we may not need government assistance, there are many who do, through no fault of their own.
There are many people who simply don't get that and blame those who do need help.
          Sad.
And, that's the separation of wheat from the chaff.
