  •  Yeah, well, (4+ / 0-)

fuck the Sun-Sentinel. After the Orlando paper came out for Romney, and the Chicago parent paper came out with it's self-described tepid endorsement of Obama, their home town guy, not much else was to be expected of the Fort Lauderdale paper.

Bassackward is right. For Romney they say:

We believe Romney’s past performance is a predictor of his future behavior. He’s proven himself to be a successful businessman. He rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from scandal and mismanagement. He worked with a Democrat-dominated legislature as governor of Massachusetts to close a $3 billion budget deficit — without borrowing and raising taxes.

Certainly we have problems with Romney. At various times, and depending on whom he is speaking to, he has tried to appeal to social conservatives and immigration extremists. His foray overseas this summer was hardly a roaring success, but during the most recent debate, he showed himself to be considered a leader capable of keeping our ship of state on a steady course.

I also believe "Romney's past performance is a predictor of his future behavior;" that's what I'm afraid of.

"He’s proven himself to be a successful businessman." I think the President had it right in the recent debate when he referred to Romney not as a businessman but as an investor. That seems more accurate. He's good at ferreting out vulnerable companies, loading them up with debt, and strip mining their assets, while leaving their liabilities on the government balance sheet. Successful businessman, my ass.

"He rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics"...with Federal government money on a scale (for the Olympics) never before seen.

"He worked with a Democrat-dominated legislature as governor of Massachusetts to close a $3 billion budget deficit — without borrowing and raising taxes." Yeah, right. He vetoed most of the bills that were put before him and was nearly as often overridden. And as for not raising taxes, ask the people of Massachusetts about their one-term governor who was gone most of his last year. I guess the Sun-Sentinel doesn't call it raising taxes as long as they're called "fees."

And "during the most recent debate, he showed himself to be considered a leader capable of keeping our ship of state on a steady course." Oh, really?! Well, yes, I guess if that means agreeing (for the moment) with Obama's foreign policy (as much as was covered by that narrow debate), then I guess that's what a "steady course" means. But leadership? Not so much.

Then, for their coup de grace, the illustrious editors dismiss concerns over women's rights and the Supreme Court because economy. Fuck them all to hell.

Their editorial opinion influence is vanishingly small in any case.

The GOP can't win on ideas. They can only win by lying, cheating, and stealing. So they do.
