  •  Sorry, but (0+ / 0-)

it does hurt to be polite to them. It hurts our cause tremendously. And since when are they polite in return?

Also, and more to the's not a matter of politeness so much as accuracy and truthfulness. And there's nothing polite about lying.

    Call them what they are.

    •  Actually, lying is essential to being polite (0+ / 0-)

But more to the point, people who are pro-life call themselves that because, in the context of the abortion debate, they are in favor of letting the fetus live and be born.  The fact that they are in favor of death in other contexts, as a previous commenter pointed out, does not make their self-characterization a lie.  I am pro-choice in the context of abortion, but the fact that I oppose choice in other areas (discrimination, pollution, etc.) does not make me a hypocrite, nor does it turn the “pro-choice” label into a lie.

In any event, you will never persuade anyone to your point of view by calling him a liar (or a hypocrite).  The best way to make your opponent doubt his position is to make him like you as a person first.  And the first step toward that end is being polite.
