  •  Widespread belief in UFOs in Iceland? (0+ / 0-)

That's news to me.  There's the minority that believe in the álfur/huldufólk (elves/hidden people), if that's what you're thinking of.  There's also a fair bit of 9/11-was-an-inside-job stuff here too.  But I've never heard anyone here talk about believing in UFOs before.  Have heard people make fun of those who believe in UFO visits, though.

FYI, the US (actually NATO) base has been closed for years.  Military ships still come to the harbors and military planes sometimes to the airport, but that's controversial; there's a sizeable minority that want Iceland out of NATO so that we don't have to take them any more.  I'm personally not-fully-on-board-with-but-sympathetic-to that concept.

    •  there was a documentary film made in iceland, (0+ / 0-)

released in france, and re-released in the u.s. around 10 years ago that discussed the belief in elves/trolls, as well as sizeable ufo belief in iceland. much was made about the belief that u.s airforce bases brought them to iceland.

i wish i could remember the name of the film but this is enough info so if you were interested, you could track it down.  it showed on french television and won some documentary awards.

If transferring wealth to the top 2% creates jobs, wouldn't we be swimming in jobs right now? (-9.75 / -9.05)
