    but I wouldn't call it sea level rise. Sea levels were running perhaps a foot above normal at the Gulf Stream and on the offshore side of the Gulfstream. That foot above normal may have been pushed ashore by easterly winds.

    The total storm surge was about 8 ft on top of a high tide of 6 ft.

    Yes, it was great to see Bill Clinton call out Mitt Romney for his ridiculous pandering to GOP anti-science types.

        = a big fucking deal.

        How do we communicate that Big Fucking Deal?

        We need to find ways to blast our message past the blockages.

        We need ways to soundbite our message without running afoul of technical inaccuracy.

        Personally, I vote for "Storm Surge approaching 14 feet" as a worthy and accurate soundbite when the "storm surge" of 8ft is riding on top of a "high tide" of 6 ft.

        But I'm open to anything that works.
