    Once the storm began its formation, there was something somewhat intuitive as to how it would behave.

    Glad I was in New England BEFORE this whole thing happened; in fact the first warnings about the potential development of Sandy started being broadcast on day I departed for home. Which goes to show: I don't bring ALL of the natural phenomena with me when I travel. I may carry earthquakes from California to Maine but I managed to leave the tropical nastiness on the East Coast.

    I've seen it suggested elsewhere that the blocking systems to the north and east of Sandy were themselves artifacts of reduced Arctic ice cover. Care to comment?
