"Freedom's just another word for 'nothing left to lose.'"

Rove and Scotty Boy made a key strategic error.  They assumed that by periodically scuttling a major news outlet for either constructed or arbitrary reasons, they could keep the mainstream media in a state of paralysis by fear.  And that the MSM would be even more compliant than they'd been drugged and lulled and cajoled into being.  It was a simple extrapolation and I'm sure they're scratching their heads now and saying to themselves it should have worked.

Fact is they overreached.  And now the entire WHPC and their bosses, and media bosses at every outlet with a pulse know that they could be next, and all the manufactured "balance" and "objectivity" and "fairness" they bend over backward to provide this administration -- as CBS and Newsweek most certainly did -- buys them absolutely nothing, zero, zilch, bubkes.  Put another way, the White House failed to provide a carrot along with the stick, and now they've got a pack of stick-whipped dogs on their hands and not a single t-bone with which to appease them.

I hope this anger and this solidarity endure.

    •  If the MSM ever finds it's huevos again (4.00)
they will solve their declining readership and ratings problems. Duh!
Can you imagine the Bloodsport of tearing this administration a new one?! The Targets Of Opportunity involved in simply calling the Republicans out on all their B.S.!!?
When the crimes of this Administration "morph" into Jacko scaled scandal status...when the media snaps out of its' "moonwalking" Out! Nothing sells like relevant reportage married to malicious mischief.

on top of the manufactured reality that the WH is trying desperately to maintain, along with their Pentagon lackeys.

The MSM has been suckered several times:

      1. The TANG-Rather controversy, causing Dan Rather to resign
      2. The Miller-Novak-Plame affair
      3. The Newsweek-Isikoff-continuing torture cases
      4. and on Iraq, Iraq, IRAQ

I think a lot of phone calls and unannounced meetings went down between last week and today.  I think a lot of people got royally pissed, and I am not talking about drinking a few slugs.  WaPo got on the dime immediately publishing stories that essentially corroborated Isikoff.  The Newsweek staff essentially stood behind the story and its reporters.  And it doesn't look as if Isikoff is going to fall on his sword just for Bush's benefit--not like Rather did.  Bush would have to wait forever for that new scalp.  Mighty funny that all this swell of indignation is happening over a guy sympathetic to Bush and practically helped him to power with the Clinton exposes.  One thing about the Bush Cosa Nostra that the WaPC is finally getting: this bunch of cutknees isn't loyal to anybody.

I hope one of these days, those medals that the crime family for Iraq got get rescinded.  Because they didn't do anything.

    •  Going along to get along? (none)
It has been shown (and documented) that this is fascism's weak suit. They don't do it and despise anyone, outside their Gang, who thinks that's how they play the game.

Going along with fascism will get one to Sigmaringen, if one makes it that far.
