It looked grim for this year - the power was down for days, and I have an ongoing novel that I'm posting Tuesday at 8 PM Eastern on dkos called, "Sherlock Holmes In Space - The Knower" (here's the latest chapter).

But I think I'll be able to do NaNoWriMo after all. Found a visible scene (in a landscape painting) and that led to a protagonist (as yet, unnamed) and two other characters in three paragraphs.  I'll install AbiWord for the word-count, but for the actual writing, Windows WordPad seems to work pretty well.

NaNoWriMo is a worthwhile exercise. Interested writers should give it a try. To add to the challenge, perhaps make a conscious effort to work on areas of writing which you've neglected (in my case, describing scenery).

Strange that a harp of thousand strings should keep in tune so long
