      person on a subway car who is asleep or passed out who has clearly defecated on themselves.  The stench is unmistakable.  

      It's not possible that there are people down there in the tunnels defecating and no one knows about it.

      It's just not possible, especially in the summer.

        but it is not massive numbers.  there are areas of tunnel that aren't even used.  Access is tricky - but those who know the ropes know what station to go into, walk to the end of the platform, down the tracks on the side and off into "rooms".
