to my special store of pics. That file is the one I look at on those occasions when I need the comfort of humanness from others. I saw that pic and immediately teared up. Each detail of the hugged victim, of the president and of the governor grew in significance as I studied it, and my original eye-sting broadened to tears on my cheeks.

divineorder, although I'm sure you meant well, and although the appended text is perfectly true, the addition of that text cheapens and sullies a wonderfully honest and human moment. It is the equivalent of taking a pic of a wonderful sunset and adding an advertising banner that says "come to beautiful ___, where every day is like this." Usually, I absolutely love your stuff, but I can neither tip nor rec this one. Sorry. I only comment because you've not only spoiled a wonderful comfort for me while I'm still trying to locate all my old friends there, you've also done something that I think you'll regret.

That pic is too pure to need additions or editorials. May I also suggest that you and others would always do well to consider how the private persons in such a photo would feel about becoming part of your message. If politicizing either triumph or tragedy reminds me of this sad attempt, then (in my opinion) you've done something wrong.

My apologies for feeling I needed to tell you this in your own diary, and for the offense I'm probably causing you; I mean none of what I've written as a put-down.

Enough fossil fuel remains on Earth to warm it 6 degrees C by 2100 AD if it is all used. A +6 C planet will only sustain half a billion humans. Human population will rise to 9 billion by 2050. Any questions?

take a deep breath and look at the credit for the picture and you will see that I had nothing to do with it but think it was spanking right on, and shared it with kossacks.

Click on the link underneath the graphic and it will take you to the page where I found it on Facebook.

Had I done it, I would have taken credit for it!

Good points about politicizing, but this is not anything like the sad situation you link to, so have to disagree here.

Anyway, here's a sunset for you and hope you find your friends okay!!!

added to the pic. Thank you for that beautiful sunset; I needed it tonight. I'm often accused of preferring rain to sunshine (born in Cleveland, grew up in Liberia) but even I have my limits. It started raining here a week ago and is still raining. I feel stupid even mentioning Cleveland's weather when my beloved NYC is suffering like this. I lived there 20 years and was in love with it before I ever first saw it.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the original pic will go viral after the election, both because it is art and because it is political and human dynamite. You're a photographer, and I'm sure you can see why I say that about its art. Its elements are classically balanced, while being very obviously unstaged. I know several artists who are probably already planning to paint it unchanged. Politically --I'd be willing to face down a teaparty mob if I had that pic with me to slow them down.
