    "Amusing Ourselves to Death". Not about linguistic history but very strong argument even pre internet that we are living out Huxley's world.

    About how much discourse has fallen because no one reads.

    Its a one day read. I remember most strikingly when the author talks about how the Lincoln/Douglas debates were numerous and they'd speak for 8 hours . . . and the people just sat and listened then . . . talked about it themselves.

    Now? What's the snap poll. Let's see how many graphics we can fit on the screen.

      My aunt is the head of Case's English Dept (er Chair), and was teaching something like "Urban Fiction" and suggested

      "The Mole People". She used it (I actually had never read it only heard about and that it was controversial factually so perfect) so was cool when she could tell me about. It alleges that there are hundreds/thousands of ppl living in the bowels of NYC and they have like societies/elections, etc. . . .

      Which does make me wonder to the extent there is any truth what Sandy may have done . . .
