  •  I want to quibble about the Centrist thing... (0+ / 0-)

...about appearances and electability, about the target versus the trajectory, blah, blah, blah. I think Obama has done what he can, within the limits of the system. Sure a fierce champion would be rhetorically satisfying, but that's about it. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that the Obama campaign has articulated the coherent and unrelentingly progressive morality underlies his actions as POTUS.

Personally, I think there is no such thing as a Centrist or Moderate in America. You are progressive or regressive, liberal or conservative. What looks like a Centrist is someone who is liberal on some issues and conservative on others.

On another note, there is a statistic out there that suggests that 35% of Americans think that one day they will be in the economic top 1% some day, call it the American Dream or the Capitalists Delusion. Either way, there are a ton of foolish people voting for a future them that will never be and against the real them's interests. I suspect the pool of self-described small business owners suffer more than average from this delusion. They don't want to think that life will be an unending struggle to stay afloat and do right by themselves and maybe one or two employees.

In fact, it's probably a lot easier on the mind just to accept the rational selfishness argument as a mental short hand and get on with growing the business.

    •  I would disagree that (0+ / 0-)

working with big corporate America to advance the agenda of big corporate America over people who are being hurt by this agenda is "progressive" in any way. Just because right wingers are insane anti-science racist theocrats does not make corporatism "progressive".

      •  Could you cite and example? (0+ / 0-)

Links will do. I'm not sure what you are pointing too and I think I should be if I am going to respond.
