  •  Yep (13+ / 0-)

One side led by Chris Christie - the so-called "not quite completely morally bankrupt and insane" fighting against the Romney oligarchy and the Bachman nutters.

I was very impressed with the abrupt about face by Christie. "Endorsing" Obama on the eve of the election just made him the face of the compassionate, bipartisian but conservative Republican party.  2016 will be interesting and I hereby predict Warren vs Christie on the final ballot.

    •  Yep. We need to allow the possibility that (8+ / 0-)

even objectionably crazy people can come to their senses.

Some of these people are posturing, or trying to get on a ship that isn't sinking, but others are actually grabbing a clue and I guess that's Good For America.

I'm mystified by the Perfect Storm Of Sanity that Sandy brought, and I'm grieved by the devastation. But thankful that some of the fallout is incredibly positive for civilisation as we dream it.

      •  While this may sound heartless, I think it's a (8+ / 0-)

case of making an omelette*. The Rs have been further exposed as useless noisemaking hate-mongers.

President Obama acted presidentially. R$ and his $5K WalMart spending spress was exposed as being, well, who he is.

The outdated infrastructure may be able to be rebuilt to current standards, and people see just exactly how government can help in disasters.

AND GET GENERATORS THAT WORK FOR HOSPITALS!!

Also, being on the East Coast I'm hopeful George Will, Peggy Noonan and the other Sunday morning morons got slapped in the face with reality.

The deaths and destruction are regrettable, however.

        *However sucky for the eggs.

    •  where do the religious conservatives go in this? (9+ / 0-)

The Romney oligarchy is really the business republicans trying to pretend they care about the religious conservative cause.

      They don't.

I have never been able to figure out if Fox is the propaganda arm of the Republican party or is the Republican Party the political subsidiary of Fox.

      •  That's silly--of COURSE they care (5+ / 0-)

They care enough to make sure always to have some Democrat or left-leaning group set up to take the  blame each time the "religious conservative cause" just can't quite seem to get itself enacted into law.

The repeated frustration & concomitant fury of the religious Right is the mainspring of the plutocracy's slow-motion takeover & looting of the government. If those folks as a whole ever understand how they've been used & abused by the bazillionaires, there won't be enough rope or lampposts to handle the traffic--it'll come down to bare fists & baseball bats at the end.

Fuck the mythical “moral high ground”. There’s plenty of time to shower after the election. (h/t danah gaz (fka gaz) @ Balloon-Juice)

      •  The Wall St. Rethugs (0+ / 0-)

care enough about the "Christian" Taliban to keep on using them, misleading, and manipulating them into continuing to vote against their own economic interests. That's why they keep the "culture wars" dragging on infinitely in order to keep the faithful fooled into voting for the advocates of the 1%.

By allowing us to make progress in the areas of gay marriage, and dragging their feet on abortion bans while pretending to do the opposite, they keep the religious wingnuts distracted distracted and motivated. The Wall St. Rethugs can't keep winning without the votes of the "Christian" Wrong, so they know better than to give them everything they want lest they go away satisfied. They've learned well the lesson of the early 70's when the end of Vietnam led to the collapse of Progressive activism and the return of Republicans to political legitimacy.
