  •  What do you call someone who is: (6+ / 0-)

pro-choice, supports gay rights, opposes the death penalty, favors gun control, opposes school vouchers, and is in favor of making taxes more progressive?

You call him Senator Bob Kerrey.

He is more liberal than several currently sitting Democratic Senators.

    •  I have to ask (0+ / 0-)

How any of those positions trumps the elderly having food, heat, health care and comfort during retirement?

GOP.   If you think the GOP candidate will be better on SS, by all means don't support Kerry.

There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who fit into one of two mutually exclusive categories, and those who don't.

      •  what do think his position on Medicare is? (2+ / 0-)

His position isn't one of ending Medicare. It isn't one of privatizing Medicare.

His position is also not the one that I would take.

It also isn't nearly as bad as you are making out.

He is talking about increasing the automatic eligibility age (from 65 to 69). He is talking about adding means testing. (The number I see attached to means testing is never less than people making $150,000 per year.) He is talking about increasing premium.

I think you are confusing his position with a drown-it-in-a-bathtub sort of approach to the position. It isn't.

Not sure where the food and heat come in, unless you are talking about making choices between paying for health care and paying for these things. The means testing isn't going to affect people who are actually being faced with those decisions.
