  •  No, it's a direct response to Romney's stunt today (10+ / 0-)

This has everything to do with Romney's gangster-like "closing argument."  You know, the one that goes, "Nice little country you've got here.  Be a shame if you refuse to elect me and the Republicans in the House drive it right over the fiscal cliff in retaliation.  Elect me and you won't have to worry about any of that, because the House caucus will do what I tell them, and I can roll right over the Senate because it's filled with Democrats.  They have a conscience, and they care about what happens to the country, so they always cave when the chips are down."

Reid is telling him, Not this time.  We've learned this game, and we're not playing it with you.

Which is to say, he's signaling strength, not weakness.  And really, it was important to have it said.

    •  Looks like Willard forgot the whole House (0+ / 0-)

is being elected. Of course the party has ignored that incumbency took a hit in 2010 when 85 freshmen arrived on the hill and nobody knew what to do with them. All hope of undoing 2008 flew out the window. The Tea Party had a valid point when it argued that incumbents had engaged in extortion, using ear marks to insure their own continuation in office. And it wasn't just Republicans who had that habit.

Why is it we can't build highways that last forty years? It wouldn't be because construction companies appreciate the guaranteed income from having to rebuild every two years, would it? And it's not because of ground frost. In frost-free Florida, one end of I 10 started falling apart before the other end was done building.

We organize governments to provide benefits and prevent abuse.
