    180μνησιπήμων πόνος: καὶ παρ᾽ ἄ-
    κοντας ἦλθε σωφρονεῖν.
    δαιμόνων δέ που χάρις βίαιος
    σέλμα σεμνὸν ἡμένων.

    It's not Zeus but δαίμων, which isn't any particular god, but rather divine will, I think, or something like "fate" or "destiny."

      It's not a small difference. "The grace of God" as understood by any modern westerner having a fleeting familiarity with christian dogma is a concept that would have been utterly foreign to Aeschylus. The original suffers for being translated with an enormous christian bias.

      To put the torture behind us is, inevitably, to put it in front of us.
