    I'm usually a lurker here, and generally a satisfied lurker. But I would note that this entire thread is rather disturbing. Bioethics is neither simple nor black and white, and not all those opposed to certain procedures are blindly ideological.

    As I recall, Harold Shapiro, the former President of Princeton, was appointed to a national commission on bioethics a few years ago, and gave a number of speeches dealing with the very real moral problems that new technological advances pose. Now, Dr. Shapiro is the last person I would call a rabid theocrat...

    There are doubtless people who inform their opinions on this subject with religious beliefs, just as there are other who bring secular ethics to the discussion. But numerous comments both above and below seem to express a simple contempt for the very idea that some technological advances are morally questionable. It's unworthy of this site.
