  •  Michigan Senate has been dysfunctional for decades (1+ / 0-)

Folks have taken to the ballot initiative process because the odds of anything sane happening through our state Senate are roughly zero.  And it's hard to blame them for going the constitutional route, inasmuch as ballot initiatives that aren't passed as constitutional amendments are easier to screw with (e.g. medical marijuana)).

Why is the Senate dysfunctional?  Simply put, Michigan Dems don't show up in off-presidential years when the state Senate is elected.  It's been republican for 30 years as a consequence.  I believe it was Mitt's father who pushed for state Senate and gubernatorial elections in off-years as part of the last revision of the state Constitution.

If people want the constitutional hijinks to stop, please start electing better state Senators!
