    is to realize that you're going to be baffled. Then, paradoxically, it becomes less baffling.

    Reminds me of something I told one of my students. She's only a freshman, but very bright, and when I had named Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" as one of my five favorite books, she came up after class and asked me if I thought she could handle it. I told her, "Yes, you can handle it, as long as you realize, even as smart as you are, that you're not going to truly understand it until about the third reading. If then." :)
