Ill give you some rich irony - this is a gift to the Kuwaiti people from Saddam Hussain.

When Saddam's forces invaded in 1990 the Royal family fled, leaving the people to suffer.  They broke the social contract between the leader and the masses.  Ever since then the people have demanded greater and greater say in how the country is run.  So in effect Saddam exposed the Kuwaiti Royal family for being "me first" rulers and enabled the people to change things.

By comparison in 2003 when it was about 50/50 that the House of Saud would maintain control in Saudi Arabia, the King (Actually Crown Prince but defacto King due to illness) made all of the senior Princes stay in the country.  Family members were allowed to leave as did minor princes but the visible ones not only stayed but were publicly in the forefront of the efforts to fight the near overthrow of the government.  They were going to win or go down with the ship.  As a result the Saudi Royal family not only maintained their social contract but enhanced it - a major factor in the "Arab Spring" being dead in the desert of Saudi Arabia.

I wrote a work product in 2008 predicting the fall of the Kuwaiti Royal family in 2014 so i am hoping they hang on for a few more years :)

...has ever been shown by any of the current or past crop of dictators and oligarchs we prop up in the Middle East.

In a country where your chauffeur is probably a "Prince," I'm sure there were plenty to shove in front of the cameras...
