    Let the FUN begin!

I've been expecting this battle and am also entirely hopeful that it will create two deeply divided versions of the GOP...neither strong enough to do much other than teach into each other for lack of sufficient purity.  Kinda like Shiah and Sunni, but with slightly fewer car bombs.

Free markets would be a great idea, if markets were actually free.

they're too authoritarian to let divisive internal battles rise to the surface.  In the end they'll all march in lockstep to whichever faction gets to pick the talking points for Faux News and Rush.

Look....whatever else Karl Rove is, he knows how to count and even dear sweet Lindsay knows the same thing when he says, We can't find enough angry white guys to win.

The demographics are steadily trending badly for today's GOP.  Remember that hugely divisive issue gay marriage?  There will always be a fairly sizable crowd of people who feel passionately about it, but year by year, it is becoming less potent as more younger people enter the population and gays are essentially no big deal.  Plus more and more states are allowing it....and I suspect even some that outlawed it earlier.  People can see that the world is not falling apart as a result.  Dead issue for the wingnuts.

Hispanics....growing rapidly as a voting bloc and when the dust settles this round, I'm pretty sure they are going to have played a BIG factor in an Obama victory.  Jeb Bush knows you ignore them at your peril and the party has GOT to change its stance to have any chance of winning more of them...especially on immigration issues.  More Minutemen....less GOP votes from Hispanics...more trouble.

Women.....never has the party's negative stance on women been so clear as in this election.  A true moderate Republican, not shackled by Mourdoch and Aikin and Ryan with their no exception requirements on right to choosed (even though Ryan claims he will allow exceptions because Romney) plus equal pay, education, health care, contraception would have won this election, but the far right insisted on fealty to their platform and the party is likely going lose.  Mitt got white middle class men (not me however) but that has been offset by women.  Not helpful.

That is where the GOP battle lines are going to be drawn.  The Tea Party/evangelical/wing nut branch is going to insist Romney wasn't truly conservative and didn't argue their stance articulately....if at all.

And the Roves of the world, if they have any brains left, are going have to figure out how to break away from these idiots and try and find a platform and candidates that is a lot more centrist.   Watching Obama run almost hourly ads showing Colin Powell's endorsement and reasons for doing so on CNBC is in itself a giant wedgie to Republicans.  "Look....this is the face of moderate articulate reason why the GOP has just gone too far."   (For today's GOP it is simply a great example of all those blacks sticking together.)  Therein likes the battlefield.

If FOX and Rush are able to drive the messaging, the far right could well win the battle......and in the end, lose the war.   Will be fun in the weeks ahead to see just how Rush and FOX play the outcome and who THEY see is to blame.  Will tell us a lot.

Free markets would be a great idea, if markets were actually free.
