    you don’t counter a myth with a pile of facts and statistics. You have to counter it with a more powerful story. And that’s what Obama and the Democrats have repeatedly failed to do. White Southern men want a story that makes them feel proud of America and what it can accomplish.
    What we're saying here, then, is 'Southerners don't care about facts and stuff like that. They want to be told a good story. And because Republicans are good at stories and Democrats aren't really, that means that it's your fault that you can't get the South to like you. And you have to stop with all those facts and things.'

    It seems to me to be both deeply insulting to Southerners, who would at least mostly like to believe they live in the real world, and at the same time basically a way of blaming the Democrats squarely for their own problems. Just learn to tell comforting lies — America is the greatest in the world, we don't have to change, there's nothing wrong with us and everything's just going to get better from here — and we'll be just fine.

    Forgive me if I don't sign onto that program.
