We all have our pet peeves and this is one of mine. Whenever I see the word treason in a diary title I'll comment to let the author know that it is a word that should be used with care because it has a specific meaning in the US. The authors of the Constitution carefully delineated the crime of treason in Article III, narrowly defining its elements and setting forth stringent evidentiary requirements. There have been approximately 30 treason trials in the entire history of the United States, so this is a crime rarely committed and prosecuted. That's my only point. Scott is reprehensible and his behavior is criminal, but it is certainly not treason.

    •  that's not true at all (0+ / 0-)

you join in many diaries to protect the far right wingnuts. I wouldn't have caught on to you if it was only about a pet peeve for the word treason. I know you from all the many other comments you make in defense of the GOP and far right.

It took me awhile to catch on to what you've been doing, maybe others who read here as much as I do will catch on pretty soon.

America could have chosen to be the worlds doctor, or grocer. We choose instead to be her policeman. pity

    •  The word and idea of treason is used in many (0+ / 0-)

ways in the United States.  "He's a traitor to his race."  Ever heard that one?  No legal mumbo jumbo there.  Everyone knows what that phrase means.  It's ugly, and it's meaningful, even if the Constitution asserts a very different and quite specific meaning for the crime defined in that document.
