...if you are going to vote for Romney you are probably older and whiter and male.

What we are seeing is a new reality of social divisions.

In 2008 white men in Mississippi may have voted as much as 91% for McCaine.

Romney enjoys a 40% advantageamong Southern working class males.

    It seems contagious.

Or are your peers in your district supporting Romney for some valid or attractive reason that I don't understand?

    What is it?

of Milwaukee.  People here still believe the Ronald Reagan trickle down BS that someday they'll be rich.  And, of course, there's plenty of bigotry as well as belief that women belong in the kitchen.

And then there's guns and the perpetual fear that the big, bad gubmint is coming to take them away.

It's the garbage and propaganda that keeps them voting against their own best interests and failing to see the hands that are stealing from them.

      •  Was this demographic always like this... (4+ / 0-)

        ...in Wisconsin?

Or has it become more so in the last 4 years?

I was exposed to the Tea Party in parties and town-halls early on and what you mention reminds me of some of their themes.

No overt racism but they had a problem with Obama for his mere existence.

Otherwise, how do you explain their vicious reaction to Obama within a month of his inauguration?

        •  Not always like this here (7+ / 0-)

This was always a ticket splitting swing state.  The influx of RW media (particularly talk radio which saturates the state with high powered stations and lots of local radio shills) and Faux Newzzz increased the number of extremists and made then even more RW.  It also armed them with talking points, made them feel like they were more educated than nonlisteners (a major point that those stations make), and sent them out to talk to others and convince them to vote for Republicans.

The Tea Party was initially a group of people really angry about the financial collapse.  They initially demanded accountability for those responsible.  Liberals and Democrats joined the early actions.

The RW and monied elite were scared to death of them and immediately swung into action to buy them out.  Freedom Works weaselled their way in, paid for events, transportation and brought in speakers to promote a RW agenda and turned the Tea Party folks into an anti-Obama group and ultimately ensured that they would be led by Koch puppets.

That's why I call them Tea Baggers now.  They got bought out.

Occupy began and still is a real people oriented grassroots group.

The RW medias power goes unchallenged in this state.  The Urinal/Sentinel used to be a left leaning rag but has all but gone to  the right.  Their refusal to endorse Mitt or Obama just goes to show how little influence they have.....as for the radio stations if you want to hear anything but the usual drivel you have to tune in 820 Wcpt out of Chicago....The lack of a progressive voice in the media here in southern Wisconsin is sad and one reason Walker/Ryan recieve no criticism or accountability for what they say or do.

By the way Puddy I'm just down the road from you...

I can't get that station here due to all the high power lines I'm near.  It comes in fine when I'm in the car and out of the area, but not home.  I'm stuck sitting in front of the computer streaming liberal radio from progressive stations all over the country.

The media here isn't really RW or RW leaning - they're just scared to death of the RW and their corporate owners.  Without those, I think we'd have better newspapers and television news.

Those RW radio stations (sadly, we have TWO of them in this area) saturate the whole state with their BS.

I couldn't find a clip of it, but a commenter said, yeah, he probably walked funny because he always wore dress shoes, with slick leather soles that were slippery on carpets or wet terrazzo  floors. In Wisconsin, you see lots of boots. Overshoes too.  I can't picture Romney in boots of any kind.

        Time is a long river.
