    Any tests would have to be shown to be salient to one's job or workplace to stand legal scrutiny. Otherwise, religious tests would be allowed.

      I mean, as I understand, hiring can be on any basis except those specifically forbidden by the law. So, for instance, you can refuse to hire Democrats if you want, no matter what bearing that has or doesn't have.

        is illegal from what I understand, unless exempted for valid reasons like religious positions in a church, e.g. rabbi or priest.
