  •  GOP tries to divide us by race, religion, whatever (2+ / 0-)

Old, established families of privilege have always tried to divide the rest of us by race, religion, national origin, occupation, sexual orientation, educational level, even mode of transportation and musical preference. And, for a long time, enough of the less privileged citizens have somehow identified with the "in" group blessed by those in power.

But America moved on. Could Nixon divide us by race, yeah, that worked for a while. Could McCain do it? No, that one was all used up, so flail around for gays, foreigners, teachers, firefighters, and so on. Still no traction. Reach way back for socialists? Sorry, that one's a bit old, too. Labor unions worked as a foil for a little while, but Wisconsin held the line last night.

Did you see that crowd dancing in Chicago? They weren't just happy campaigners, they were Americans of every variety, all happy for each other. Whatever future America has was in that room, and the GOP today remains as nothing more than a foil for America to test its mettle against.

Why is there a Confederate Flag flying in Afghanistan?
