  •  Another key to FDR's success was the way he (5+ / 0-)

    communicated with the American people, especially in the fireside chats. He explained in clear, simple, direct language  the problems we faced, exactly what he planned to do about them and  how and why his measures would work.

    This type of thing has been entirely missing from the Obama administration. He never really sold the stimulus program nor later detailed  the ways it has succeeded. No one really understands his health care reform and just how it will work. I could go on and on.

    The problem is that the right wing republicans were there with counter-narratives filling the breach.

    It's almost as if Obama failed to show up to explain and sell and defend his programs and accomplishments (much in the same way he failed to "show up" at the first presidential debate).

    Obama needs to start showing up. He needs to learn from FDR's fireside chats. He needs to sell and defend and explain and articulate. In short: he needs to offer a narrative (or the republicans will prevail with theirs).
