I'm honestly not sure Saldana could have pulled it off against Bilbray as odious and yucky as he is.  Peters seems like a stronger candidate and one who was better tailored for the District.  I like Saldana but I heard she kind of engaged in some class warfare attacks against Peters in the primary.....let me stress the word "heard", I don't live anywhere near that district and wasn't following closely so I do not know for sure.....if she had done that, I would have voted for Peters over her.

I heard that Romney is going to spend more time in La Jolla.  Kinda funny, he's going to be in a town that almost certainly voted for Obama and he's going to be represented by a Democrat in Congress.   :)

There was certainly some negative campaigning. She got almost as many votes as Peters in the primary. She was quite combative, but I don't usually pay attention to the ads. Whether that would have helped or hurt in the general, I don't know, and I don't know whether her more progressive positions would have helped or hurt either.

And did a lot of the oppo research on Peters. The only advantage he had over her was his money - he's worth over $300M. That's why the party was behind him, and the main reason that Lori lost. We were ahead in the polls until he dumped $2.5M of his own money into his campaign two weeks before the election and that killed us. But we only lost by about 1,000 votes.

That he still beat Bilbray with all of his city council dirty laundry is a testament to Bilbray's unpopularity and the left lean of the new district. And his money. I still think Lori could have won, and she would have been a much more reliable progressive in congress.

That being said, I'm still glad Peters won.
