  •  Ink-a-vote ok, precincts need refining (6+ / 0-)

You have to show folks how to use it so they don't try to punch holes instead of making a dot, but other than that and making sure they understand how to get the card in the gismo properly lined up, works great.

I worked the polls at a place in Los  Angeles with 3 precincts. Plenty of room inside, each precinct set up at a table with a different color table cloth (printed on the outside of the  sample ballot where the address of the polling place is printed is the color of the table to use, but MOST hadn't read that info !!!)

Off and on, I triaged the LONG (for Los Angeles) line out the door and sent the people to the correct table.

Fine, divided up, different color tables, should be terrific, right ? NO-- somehow the table I was assigned to had hundred more voters show up than the other two combined !

It got to be a joke-- "You won the lotto ! Go to the Orange Table !"  A few others were Yellow Table. But far and away the most were my Green Table.

Or else they didn't know if they were in the right place, never got/didn't have a sample ballot, but we had a person with a complete list of all voters for the location who could help them. If not on the list, we tried to see where they belonged by way of a big map (note to map maker, please put more street names on them!)

But our line still got backed up down the street (unusual for my neighborhood), we had to get people inside out of the heat (yes, it was very hot Tuesday here) and let them bring their doggies in since it's illegal to leave a dog in a hot car, of course. Of course older folks with canes, etc., we got inside and seated, and they were given extra help as needed of course.

(All the dogs, and there were quite a few over the course of the day, were very well-behaved and got "I voted" stickers for their collars.)

All in all, an exhausting day-- I was on my feet most of the time from 6am to 10pm-- but a good one. It just needs refining.

was the "Host" table so they had all of the provisional voters who were not in any of the other precincts.

      •  We had the longest list, not just the provisionals (1+ / 0-)

The most people with sample ballots that said green table on it, and the most listed voters who showed up, PLUS the provisionals and the absentees.
