basically an old school Computer punch card type of tabulation, and I think it's the most fool proof. You get a paper ballot, and a ballot that can be read by a simple optical scanner. And the ballot cards are sturdy enough to be scanned many times. The weak link is what comes next - the scanner has to add up the  votes, so the possibility of digital tampering comes in here.

I have lived and voted in many US states, and the Los Angeles punch card, from my experience seems to be the most reliable.

But the main issues is this: the entire US should have a single system - one method of voting, the same machines and a uniform procedure for handling the ballots. So, for instance, if there is a suspect precinct, all that is needed is to bring in other tabulation machines and run the ballots through those. Those scanner type machines are cheap and portable.

The issues we ha din this election were intentional misinformation and legal shenanigans by election officials. This cannot happen again. Those that tried to stop people form voting, both through law and through on site intimidation, should be put it jail. No fines - money doesn't mean a thing when you have somebody with deep pockets covering your ass, no, put them in jail for 6 months to a year, and enforce the law. Period.
