  •  it needs to be used for more than presidentials (23+ / 0-)

it could have been used to organize support for issues such as Obamacare

it certainly could have been better used in Virginia and New Jersey in 2009 (which gave us McConnell and Christie as governors)

it certainly could have been better used in Congressional and legislative and gubernatorial races in 2010, which could have had a major impact on the politics of this country

    •  If they didn't exile Dean, and replace him with a (4+ / 0-)

nonentity, the DNC would have done all that.  OFA/DNC is rather useless for anything other than serving Obama.

      •  It my impression that Dean's ideas were embraced (4+ / 0-)

not rejected.  Our OFA met early on with Tim Kaine and he laid out his desire to continue in the same strategy for grass roots organizing and there was a 50 state endeavor all along.  In the most recent election season (specific period of time) the Obama campaign did a 270 and that's all that matters strategy.  OFA volunteers shifted focus as they were asked which is a sign of the experience they have gained by being involved for so long.  You don't have to explain much to OFA veterans and that makes the staff's job easier.

I think just watching Howard Dean's support in general for the President (he may not agree on every point or strategy but who would expect that) confirms this.

    •  As an OFA organizer since 2009, it was used. We (6+ / 0-)

have been hard at work on every issue since the beginning and that's not all.  We are working on many other things that build networks, improve the flow of information, and generally get more and more skilled at what we are doing.

I guess most people just dismissed the group here at Dkos and never bothered to find out what it was about.  That's the only explanation I have for this myth.

      •  Two time Obama campaign volunteer here (8+ / 0-)

First let me start off and say that in 2012, OFA did so much more w/ so much less. There were more volunteers and more people it seemed from the campaign working out of the staging house from which I canvassed Rockingham County, NH. Then again, what I did notice was that even though I did some of the same neighborhoods in Seabrook, Hampton, Hampton Falls, and South Hampton, we were contacting either the unregistered, leaners, and fence-sitters. The technology was better too. Bar codes next to each name so they could be removed from the list. OFA was microtargeting voters, very efficiently from what I noticed.

Obama looked like he was all alone out there.  For four years.

We need to be vocal, and we need to urge HIM to be more vocal.

    •  PLEASE write a diary about this. (3+ / 0-)

Obama said in an interview that he knows that this was a mistake he made in his first term.

We need to REMIND him of this.

HE CANNOT do this by himself.

HE NEEDS us to complete the change he started.

      USE US, BARACK!!!
