The only reason the GOP is even for it is because tax reform is going to fall on the middle class.

Just imagine what getting rid of deductions (children, mortgage interest, student loan interest, local and state taxes) is going to mean for Blue States vis-a-vis red states. Massive cuts in programs. What will it mean for education?

Unless I'm mistaken, Romney did not win the election. I hate to see Democrats pick up this idea that tax reform is laudable.

The US tax system is way too complicated. There's obviously room to make it simpler and fairer. Obviously some of that complexity benefits the poor and middle class, but it's a safe bet that more of it benefits the wealthy.

Whether simplification is net good or net bad depends on the details. More breaks for the wealthy in the current code means good potential for simplification costing the wealthy more than it costs the rest of us.

Generally, complexity benefits those who can afford accountants and tax lawyers.

the discussions are about mortgage interest, local taxes. This will gut the social programs in the blue states and turn them into red states.
