Salem mayor Kim Driscoll considered running this year.

Somerville mayor Joe Curtatone is waiting around to run for the House after Capuano retires, but he's ambitious.

Treasurer Steve Grossman is regarded as the member of the statewide class of 2010 most interested in moving up. He comes from a rather political background rather than a technocratic one.

So overall, probably lots of overlap with this list:

      Off your list:
-Setti Warren was criticized pretty hard by Newton for running. If he wants to actually keep a base won't run again for a while.
-Markey has a ton of seniority in the House (elected at age 30 in 1976)

You think Coakley would be worth even considering after the major fail she had in 2010?

      •  I like her a lot (0+ / 0-)

But I think she needs to be a Mayor or State/Federal Legislator to have a shot at a statewide gig. My first choice for Boston mayor when she runs, absolutely.

        •  Pressly's an at-large member and just won (0+ / 0-)

her last election with the top vote get in a huge upset. Her council district is the entirety of Boston. I'm sure that is much larger then any State Senate or House district. She's got a large base. Not to mention she has pretty extensive ties to John Kerry and was a big Warren surrogate. She's also a favorite of Menino. She's got a lot going for her.

but that doesn't translate to legitimacy on the statewide level. It's unfair, but true. Being a state legislator, even if it is a smaller constituency, at least gives someone a experience with statewide issues and networking with officials from around the state.
