to love data.  I think the misconceptions about the sixties are a result of what got filmed.  The cameras were on the hippies and flower children because that's where the drama was, even if we were in the minority. Plus we were cuter.

it was distressing that anyone even close to my age would think  of voting for Nixxon. And though I didn't come across exit polls that only focused on 18-25 year olds, I suspect that a majority of them did vote for McGovern, for two reasons:

      * the war and the draft were still very much going on
      * 1972 was the first time 18 year olds had the right to vote. (and therefore it was the first time for anyone up to age 22.----draft age.)

I suspect that a pretty high percentage of those 18-24 year olds then...58 to 64 now...voted for Obama. It's only the higher end of that age group 25-29/65-69 that are Nixxon/Romney voters.

I was a registered Republican in Orange County, Calif. (although away at college), and voted for McGovern.  I swear to God, I can't prove it, but I think I might have been the only OC Republican to vote for George.

Changed my party registration to Democrat; when I told my parents, you could hear a pin drop.
