    I remember that Al Gore called for recounts in Miami-Dade but not for a statewide recount of every damn ballot in the state; personally, I think that may have cost Gore.

      dwindle to 0.5% and a statewide law, so it would be a statewide recount.

      There is no analogue between this and the situation in 2000, because we're talking about a statutory threshhold that triggers an automatic recount, not legal jostling from one of the campaigns.

      There was a statewide automatic recount in 2000, but the controversy was the additional hand recounts in Democratic-heavy counties that Gore was asking for. That's where the comparison with now diverges.
